IM MOMent

THEME

"at the moment"

"Im Moment"

When I first saw the theme of the assignment, the thought of what I could possibly create from this input never left me. I instantly knew that I was going to make an animation, because even though it takes a long time, for me it is an excellent way to communicate the story that came to my mind.

BRAINSTORMING

The theme "at the moment" (im Moment) could represent anything. To help me visualize and avoid forgetting my ideas, I wrote down all the thoughts that crossed my mind. I imagined, for example, what would happen if time would stop, or what the life of someone who could control time would be like. But I wanted to do something that had more meaning behind it - something with a message one might say. Finally, I came up with the idea of showing that what we're thinking about someone or something at a given moment often takes much more space than the really important things in life. Overcoming the consequent feelings, especially if these are negative, could make everyone's life more pleasant.

Storyboard

Before starting my animation, I wanted to make a storyboard to set up the plot and avoid any incomprehension problems in my story line. It also gave me a rough idea of how the characters and environment would look like.

The environment

In order not to waste time, I thought about what was the best way to proceed and then started by creating a larger environment than I actually needed. Then, for each scene, I cropped out the superfluous parts and avoided creating a new environment each time.

Animating

Photoshop is basically not designed for animation. Therefore, I downloaded a plugin to have an efficient workflow and not to be slowed down by the program. For the animation style, I was not very strict and animated on ones, twos and threes.

Post-Production

When I finished animating all nine sequences, I exported the files and put them together. I was quite pleased with the first result, except that I had to change a few things, which meant cutting out a few frames, speeding up some clips and making others slower.

Color Grading

At this point, all I had to do was improve and enhance the colors.

Then I had finally finished my animation on "at the moment". I very much hope you like it too!
